Implementation first results KDC-study 'Forecasting LVP'

CloudsThe first results of the KDC-study 'Forecasting Low Visibility Procedures at Schiphol Airport' have been completed and formally taken into operation. This milestone has lead to an improvement of the reliability and robustness of visibility forecasts at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The visibility forecast was developed in close cooperation with the The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and is currently a part of the standard periodical weather forecast which is transmitted to all aviation partners in the so-called 'Schiphol Kansverwachting'.

On June 2nd 2009, Ype de Haan, KLM's Executive Vice President Operations, officially initiated the use of the new 'Schiphol Kansverwachting' with a mouseclick at KNMI's weather room at de Bilt. Besides the invitees and the members of the projectteam, KNMI management and KDC management  (Evert Westerveld (LVNL), Bert van der Weyden (KLM) and Koos Noordeloos (AAS)) were present.
